What is The Tree Project?
The Tree Book is a new children’s picture book all about nature and our environment. But what makes it extra special is that for every book we sell, we also plant a tree.
The first woodland we’ll be planting is at Penhill Point in North Devon UK where we are working with owners David and Nicola to create a 5 acre wood.
This wood is part of a larger site which also includes a 5 acre wildflower meadow. As the wood and meadow develop it will be a home to thousands of insects, animals and plants. Our aim is to plant over 3,500 trees.
Where are we planting the trees?
The site sits next to the Taw Estuary, a site of special scientific interest due to its importance for local wildlife and is in the heart of the protected North Devon Biosphere. The Biosphere is one of 668 Reserves in 122 countries designated by UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme and was the first of 6 to be designated in the UK. Your tree will help create a great new habitat for wildlife next to the estuary. This is particularly important because, as sea levels rise, the ground available to wildlife at the edges of the river gets smaller and smaller.
Why are we doing this
Our aim at Letterfest for 2020 is to make a positive contribution to the environment. The Tree Book is just part of our drive as a company to become more environmentally friendly. From sourcing new types of packing, printing on FSC paper and recycling waste. We'll keep you updated on our progress.
